HELPING SOMEONE CHANGE THE WORLD

Rosa Parks got on the bus. She was tired from her long day at work at the department store but today, for some reason, she was thinking of her grandparents, and her ancestors and how strong they had been, how noble ....

She did not go to the back of the bus but sat down near the middle, just behind the “whites only” seats. A few stops later, the “whites only” seats were all taken and a young white guy asked Rosa for her seat...........

The bus was now full, the bus driver became angry and he shouted at the black passengers to move and stand at the back of the bus.

Rosa’s ancestors spoke to her....

Unlike the other blacks around her, she just stayed where she was.

Denis was sitting there on the bus, Rosa didn’t see him at the time but when she left her deathbed in October 2005 at the ripe old age of 92 after a lifetime of knowing with pride that she had somehow changed the world, Denis was the first who came to her, she recognised him immediately.

Rosa Parks only then understood the humble role she had played in a picture bigger than she could ever have imagined. Denis stroked her cheek and turned her to face the pasture stretching out to infinity .... they were so many: the loved ones, the family and all those who acknowledged their debt.

Back in 2005, there were so many flowers sent to Rosa’s funeral that all the roads surrounding the church were blocked off and the flowers laid out around the the adjoining streets. You could have almost seen the spectacle from outer space. Rosa certainly saw it from where she was.
